If I asked you to name all the things you love, how long would it take for you to answer yourself?

Would you answer yourself first?

I’m going to bet you wouldn’t even include yourself in the list, and why would you? Society would have you believe that loving yourself is selfish. They want you to believe that you should put everyone and everything before yourself, but I’m here to help you see things differently.

18 months ago, I wouldn’t even think of spending money on myself. As a matter of fact, I made a habit out of putting myself last. I’m a hard worker, with a big heart for everyone. But, I didn’t include myself on that list. We as parents tend to put our kids needs before our own. We have trained ourselves to do this, we didn’t just wake up one day and start doing it.

Instead, we’ve been doing it their entire lives. The kids needs always come before ours, and they should sometimes, but not always. Your kids are always watching you, they are learning from you daily.  One day they are are going to grow up and move away, and then what?

You must learn to make yourself a priority. Do you want to your kids to think that just because they are parents, nothing else in the world matters!? I don’t! I want my kids to see how important it is to take care of ourselves. I want them to understand that happiness, and joy never come from things outside of ourselves.

Sure your kids bring you joy, but they are not joy.

You must create a space that’s for you, and you only.

You have to figure out what you’ve been avoiding your entire life, and why you’ve been avoiding it.

How can you change and grow?

First You have to want to change, and then you must surround yourself with people who want you to succeed. You have to brave enough to believe in yourself. You have to be strong enough to get past your own bullshit. You want to teach your kids an important lesson in life, then you teach them about boundaries. You show them how to implement them into their lives, then you need to create boundaries  in your own life.

No one ever became great on their own. Every single person who has ever  changed  their lives, needed help from someone else.  And you my dear soul are no different.

Second, your going to have to do a few things that make you uncomfortable,  and something’s that make you squirm on the inside. Great things never come from comfort zones. Instead they come when your scared to death. You will never change your life, unless you change your mind. You are responsible for you!

Don’t beat yourself up for not knowing these things before, we all learn them in our own time and on our own terms.

Some people may never learn, but those are not your people.

If you don’t have a vision you’re going to be stuck in what you know. And the only thing you know is what you’ve seen. Iyanla Vanzant
