The Wild Wild West

This morning I am writing to you from a ranch in Saddlestring Wyoming.  I will be the first to tell you, that my number one choice for a vacation is the beach.  However my husband and his family have been  coming to HF Bar for their entire lives.   So I decided to join them on a western adventure.

The picture above is where we are staying.  It’s called Big Bark.   It’s a 5 bedroom cabin and the best thing just might be that there’s no kitchen. When I first walked in I was looking for it, and after the initial shock I thought it whoa, this is pretty cool.  We won’t be doing any dishes for a week woot woot!  We are always doing dishes at the beach.

The next thing I discovered was if you don’t have a kitchen then you don’t have a refrigerator.  So what we do have on our back porch is an ice chest. It’s a very old fashioned one and every morning the horses bring us ice and fill it up.

There’s even an ice pick because you have to break that shit yourself! Oh my the adventures in the country. This is straight up out of my comfort zone and I am loving every minute of it.

We heat the cabin with a fire, so this morning I woke up to this.

It is actually freezing out this morning which is weird because it was hot yesterday. We have a river or a stream or one of one things that run behind our cabin. It’s one the most relaxing sounds I have ever heard. We are literally in the middle of no where.
3 meals a day are served family style down at the clubhouse.  They actually ring the bell when it’s ready and that’s your sign to head on down.  The food is amazing and the company is awesome.
This is our back porch and I absolutely love it out there.  We don’t always get a whole week to spend with extended family, and it’s going  to be really nice to be here for a week.  At dinner last night we all shared something we were looking forward to, and here’s wasn’t a dry eye at the table.  I was able to see a different side of my in laws that I don’t normally get to see. My husband said that he was most looking forward to finally sharing this place with me after all of these years, because it means so much to him! That made my heart swell, but I am just as happy to be here because I know it means the world to him.

Life is made for living.  It’s not made for all work and no play. Stop, breathe and live in the moment. I cannot wait to see where the rest of the week takes us.  I am actually outside on a rock writing this because the wi fii is spotty, and there are no T.V.’s.  So since I’m freezing my fingers and my ass off ( which is also a little sore from riding) I will leave you for now.  If you ever get the chance to go out west and take a break from life I would highly recommend this place!
